Purpose
To represent the interests of the Physician Assistant profession to regulatory agencies, health professional organizations and other outside organizations.
APPOINTMENT
The Liaison Coordinator and all liaisons are appointed by the President and approved by the Board of Directors.
LIAISON COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION
The Liaison Coordinator shall:
- Be a PSPA member in good standing.
- Have a thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures, and operations of the PSPA
- Assure that the work of the liaisons is accomplished in a coordinated manner.
- Facilitate communication between the Board of Directors, Government Affairs Committee, and the liaisons, as well as between the individual liaisons themselves.
- Assure that the liaisons are aware of their responsibilities and have the training, information, and resources needed for success in their roles.
- Assure that the Board receives needed information from the liaisons in a timely manner and that the Board responds to requests for action or information from the liaisons. This will partly be accomplished by coordinating a written, quarterly report to the Board of Directors from all liaisons.
- Obtains budget requests from each liaison and submit a proposed budget to the Treasurer in March of each year.
- The Liaison Coordinator reports to the President.
- Attend at least three (3) Board of Directors’ meeting per year.
- Attend scheduled meetings of the Government Affairs Committee.
- Attend any strategic planning meeting of the Society.
- Estimated time needed to fulfill the duties of this position is 10 hours per month in addition to the Board of Directors’ meetings.
- Participate in the development of the PSPA Action Plan.
LIAISON JOB DESCRIPTION
A Liaison / Contact shall:
- Be a PSPA member in good standing.
- Represent the interests of the PSPA to outside organizations.
- Serve as a contact/source of information to the outside organization for matters regarding physician assistants and the PSPA.
- Provide information on the values and benefits of the Physician-PA Team and promote PAs as productive, flexible, and cost effective team members.
- Solicit input from the Board of Directors as to the position of the PSPA on important issues.
- Be familiar with the structure, function, and duties of the organization for which he/she serves as a contact/liaison.
- Monitor the policies and actions of the organization that may affect physician assistants.
- Monitor the available publications and web site of the organization for matters that affect physician assistants.
- Notify the Board of Directors of any issues that require action or any opportunities to promote the PSPA’s objectives with the organization.
- Submit a report to the Board of Directors and the Government Affairs Chair via the Liaison Coordinator within 2 weeks of any meeting of the outside organization.
- Submit a quarterly written report to the Board of Directors via the Liaison Coordinator before each BOD meeting highlighting any interaction with the outside organization.
- Attend any pertinent meetings of the outside organization or arrange for an alternate to attend in his/her absence.
- Attend scheduled meetings of the Government Affairs Committee.
- Attend at least one Board of Directors meeting per year.
- Attend any strategic planning sessions of the Society.
- Estimated time needed to fulfill the duties of this position is approximately 1 – 3 hours per month, but may vary greatly pending the schedule of the group involved, in addition to the Board of Directors’ meeting.
LIAISON COORDINATOR AND LIAISON GUIDELINES
- Abide by all PSPA and AAPA bylaws and policies.
- Must have Board approval to enter into any legal or financial agreement on behalf of the Society.
- After consultation with the President and the Liaison Coordinator, a liaison has the authority to act in an interim capacity on timely issues not clearly defined in policy until such issues can be formally addressed and acted upon by the Board of Directors.
- Budget, disburse and account for those funds allocated to the committee for the administrative function of the committee.
- Any member of the committee representing the Society to an outside group may not act on behalf of the Society without the approval of the Board of Directors.
RESIGNATIONS
A 2-month notice is requested of a liaison or the liaison coordinator. It is also recommended that the outgoing liaison or coordinator supply the names of 2 PSPA members that could take over the responsibilities of the position. The resigning person should submit all files and copies of correspondence regarding the liaison or coordinator’s activities to the new person, liaison coordinator, or Board of Directors.
